Iqbal

It's not every day that you get to see a movie which moves, motivates and entertains you.'Iqbal' simply does that. The story of a boy who aspires to become a part of the Indian cricket team is told with such an elan that the audience may find it impossible to restrain themselves from empathising with the character.
The village lad, impaired both audibly and vocally finds it hard if not impossible to live his dream.A dream almost every man belonging to a nation where the game is considered as a religion has had at some point of his lifetime. But at eighteen years of age Iqbal dares to follow his dream thereby defying his father who wants Iqbal to work in the fields.Iqbal's never-say-die spirit and resilience out shadows his shortcomings. His mentor, sister and mother play pivotal roles in his fight to don the prestigious blue jersey.
The plot, the characters and the locations chosen are easily identifiable to any Indian.Shot in picturesque locales, the movie has some wonderful moments accompanied by suitable background score and good performance from all the actors.Never before in Indian cinema has the emotions a person experiences when he greets the greatest day of his life been shown to this magnitude.Neither did the difference one feels when he sees a real pitch, than what he is used to in his humble surroundings, been portrayed this way.
The narrative used by director Nagesh Kukunoor is simple but effective. He has received accolades for most of his movies. But the most important aspect is that he gets better with every movie. And that,is what a director should be doing
